Use your computer from your Cloud

Lend your computer to your Brainwrite Cloud so its bots can use your apps and the folders you choose.

Your Cloud computer runs your bots all day, but some work needs your own computer: an app that only runs there, a site you are signed in to, a file on your disk. Lending lets the bots on your Cloud use your computer for that work, and only while you allow it.

Turn lending on

Lending is set on the computer you lend, in its own Brainwrite window, not on My Cloud.

  1. On the computer you want to lend, open Brainwrite and switch to this computer (not My Cloud).
  2. Open Settings → Brainwrite Cloud (in Simple mode, Settings → Account → Brainwrite Cloud). You must be signed in to Brainwrite Cloud there.
  3. Turn on Let My Cloud use followed by your computer's name, for example Let My Cloud use Sam's laptop.
  4. Choose what your Cloud may use:
    • Folders: bots can read the folders you add. Turn on Can edit for a folder to let them save files there too. Keys, passwords, app sign-ins and git settings stay out of reach.
    • Apps and screen: bots can see your screen and use your apps as you. That reaches anything those apps can reach. Set up computer control for Brainwrite first (on a Mac, Accessibility and Screen Recording).

Your Cloud can use the computer while lending is on and the computer is awake with Brainwrite open and connected to your Cloud (listed as My Cloud under Servers). While it is lent, a Brainwrite icon in the menu bar or system tray says so, shows when your Cloud is using the computer, and has Stop lending and Lending settings…. Turning lending off stops it at once and cancels anything running; an action an app has already started may still finish.

Use it from My Cloud

On My Cloud, open a bot's Computer panel. My computer is one of the places a conversation can work, with a card that shows the lent computer's state:

StateMeaning
LentReady. Choose My computer, or ask the bot to use your computer.
In useYour Cloud is using it now.
AsleepIt is lent but not answering. Wake it and keep Brainwrite open on it.
Folders onlyOnly folders are lent. Turn on Apps and screen to let bots use its apps.
Not lentNothing is lent yet. Lending settings opens the switch on this computer.

When My computer is chosen, the bot works on your computer, in your real apps and accounts.

When the cloud computer cannot be used

If a conversation is set to work on the cloud computer and that computer cannot be used this turn (for example, the included hours are used up), and your computer is lent with Apps and screen on, the bot tells you why in one sentence and continues on your computer instead.

Approvals

Each thing a bot asks to do on your computer can wait for your approval, as with any other approval.

To stop a bot asking, choose Always allow on its request. On a request to use your computer, Always allow lets the bot use your computer without asking in all your conversations with it, until you remove the permission (it is listed as Always allow on My computer). Routines, webhooks, other bots, guests and group chats still ask. Brainwrite still checks on every request that lending is on and allows that kind of use, and only you as the owner, or an admin, can give this permission.

To take it back, open the bot's settings (in Simple mode, choose All settings first), go to Access, and under Always allowed choose Remove beside Always allow on My computer.

Some engines, such as Claude, can stop asking for the rest of their own session. On their requests, Always allow does only that: the bot asks again in its next session, and nothing appears under Always allowed.

Who can use it

Only your own conversations and routines on your Cloud can use your computer:

  • If someone else writes in a conversation, it can no longer use your computer. Start a new one to use it.
  • If a bot's memory was changed in a conversation you didn't write, that bot can't use your computer until you check the changed notes and choose Mark reviewed.

See what happened

Activity on this computer, in the same settings, lists every request from your Cloud's bots, including refused ones: listing a folder, reading or saving a file, running a command, and using apps and the screen.

When lending stops by itself

Lending stops if you sign out of Brainwrite Cloud on that computer, if another Cloud account signs in there, or if your Cloud moves to a new machine; turn it on again to lend to the new one. While your Brainwrite Cloud sign-in is being renewed, lending pauses and then resumes.
