Changelog
What changed in each published release of the Brainwrite desktop app.
Each published release of Brainwrite for Mac, newest first. Brainwrite updates itself; see Updates.
2.0.21 — October 24, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.21 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
New
- My Cloud becomes your home. Once your Cloud is ready, Brainwrite moves everything on this computer to it, once, by itself: bots, chats and rooms, logins, keys, secrets, connected apps, routines, scheduled calls, webhooks and app events. It copies while you keep working, waits for a quiet moment, then switches over, so nothing runs in two places. The app then opens My Cloud as its home.
- Usage: a new page shows where the time and money went: every run, the bots it brought in and each step they took, with a trace of each run.
- The bot panel is reworked: the apps a bot may use, its routines (add one, or just ask the bot), and its computer.
- Apps from MCP servers open right in the chat, in a locked frame that can't see the rest of the app.
- Team and Business appear beside the Cloud plans, with Check on our website for the details.
Changed
- Send everything to My Cloud, Copy this computer and Bring newer chats are gone: the move does it.
- If your Cloud plan ends, your bots come back to your computer with what you did on My Cloud, and the app shows the plans screen. You stay signed in, and Sign out is right there.
- The Cloud card reads "Brainwrite Cloud plans from $49/month.", taken from the current plans, and Compare plans opens them. Prices are in US dollars with no tax line.
- Automations say when they last checked and found nothing new, and which ones only read and draft.
- The Chief of Staff's brief arrives as a Brief notification.
- The Secrets page on My Cloud says your computer's secrets come with the move.
Fixed
- Messages at the top of the window no longer run under the window's buttons: they stay on one row, with only the words wrapping.
- The Halloween skin uses Brainwrite's mascot colours.
2.0.20 — October 22, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.20 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
New
- Brainwrite Cloud plans: choose Starter ($49), Pro ($99) or Max ($149) a month, each card showing its cloud desktops, hours, voice, decisions, research and Claude credit. Your first plan starts with a 3-day free trial (a card is needed; nothing is charged until it ends). Or choose the self-hosted organisation licence at $1,100 a year.
- Live calls on every plan, with your own OpenAI key.
- React to a bot's message to answer it.
- Delete all threads… in a bot's menu.
- Automations report into the bot's chat.
- Take control right where you watch a bot's computer.
- A Halloween skin: bots wear Halloween costumes while it is on.
- Chief first: one assistant that adds its own specialists, and a welcome that asks for nothing up front.
Changed
- Everyday screens say AI, Cloud desktop and Screen.
- Moving to My Cloud carries this computer's MCP servers, sign-ins, keys and connected apps, once.
- Someone who has had a free trial before is charged from the first day when they subscribe again.
Fixed
- Out-of-credits refusals say so, and a working turn clears a stale limit.
- Using this key for every Claude bot no longer breaks Claude (API key) bots.
- Cloud asleep: Wake it now no longer falls back asleep, and replies show.
- A burst of browsing bots on My Cloud waits for memory instead of being stopped.
- Deleting a thread no longer pulls hidden threads into view.
- The browser opens the identity check's page again when Chrome cancels it.
2.0.19 — October 21, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.19 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
New
- Automations that start when something happens in an app: in Automations → New, choose When something happens in an app, pick a connected app and what happens in it (for example a new Gmail email), narrow it with a filter such as Subject contains, and say what the bot should do. Some apps send events as they happen; others, such as Gmail, are checked every 15 minutes.
- Secrets on My Cloud: My Cloud has its own Settings → Secrets, and bots on My Cloud use secrets the same way bots on this computer do. Values are encrypted on My Cloud and never shown again.
- Keep My Cloud up to date with this computer now sends this computer's secrets too, with their values, kept to the same bots. Settings → Secrets shows which are on this computer only and which are on both.
- Access needed: when a bot asks for a secret that is already saved for that site but that it may not use yet, the card asks you to Allow it, with nothing to enter again.
Changed
- Editing an app automation shows its app and event, and lets you choose another connected account, for example after reconnecting Gmail.
2.0.18 — October 21, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.18 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
Important: bots change their own setup at once, with Undo
- When a bot changes a profile, a working folder, a default model, a skill, its team or team memory, the change now applies at once at every approval level, and the chat shows one line saying what changed, with Undo wherever undoing means something. Brainwrite no longer adds approval cards of its own; your AI provider's own approvals still apply.
New
- Today: a page in the sidebar with what your bots finished, what needs you, and an estimate of the time it saved you, for today or the last 7 days.
- Automations: schedules and events another app sends live on one Automations page, with a calendar, and a bot can set one up from chat. A new kind, when your AI limit resets: a turn stopped by a usage limit offers Continue at … when your limit resets.
- Files: share folders on this computer with My Cloud, so bots on My Cloud can use them even when this computer is off. They never change your files here.
- This computer and My Cloud in Settings → Brainwrite Cloud: see what differs between them, Send everything to My Cloud (it adds and updates, and never deletes), keep My Cloud up to date with this computer automatically, and Bring newer chats to My Cloud.
- Ready-made bots in Templates → Explore: 15 bots to add and start chatting with.
- Settings → Import: bring in skills and MCP tools from Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Claude Desktop and Gemini on this computer (tools arrive switched off), or a shared Grok Bot as a new bot.
- Team map shows each bot's computer with its live screen (Show computers).
- HTML preview: open an HTML file a bot sends as a page, safely (no scripts, nothing fetched), with View source.
- Profile photo in Settings → Profile, shown beside your name in the sidebar.
- Also use my Claude Code skills under Plugins → MCP servers: Claude bots use the skills in your ~/.claude/skills folder directly.
- Pop skin. New installs open in Meadow.
- Chat widgets can be answered in your own words with Other.
- Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese and Hindi now cover the whole app.
- With OpenRouter as the decision model, your OpenRouter API key from Settings → API keys is used without a separate key.
Changed
- Simple mode has a cleaner layout: the computer switcher, search and + at the top of the sidebar, team names as thin lines, a sidebar that collapses to a rail, and only the bot in the chat header (its model, Computer and ⋯ are in the bot panel).
- In one-to-one chats your messages take the bot's colour as a gradient, now on by default (Settings → Appearance → Color my messages).
- Bots browse in a real Google Chrome with their own profiles (your own Chrome profile is never touched), and their sign-ins survive closing the browser.
- A saved login fills across its whole site, such as accounts.example.com and www.example.com. Choose Only on this exact address for a site that shares its domain with others.
- A bot can type a code sent to your connected inbox to finish a sign-in you asked for.
- The live browser panel shows a page's own questions (alerts, confirmations, prompts) and answers to them, and keeps up with fast typing.
- Live calls no longer need a plan on your phone: your own OpenAI key is all a call needs.
- Cloud computers sleep after 10 idle minutes and wake on the next use, and stay on when a routine that uses them is due within 30 minutes.
- Bots' browsers in the cloud never open Reddit.
- Routines recover from passing failures by themselves, a routine that keeps failing the same way is reported once, and an unanswered question no longer stops its later runs.
- Connected apps work without a key of your own; a Composio project key of your own is optional, in Settings → API keys.
- Antigravity is listed as Google Gemini (Antigravity).
- An added AI provider account can be removed.
- In Advanced mode, a bot's model shows as a badge on its sidebar picture.
- The chat and composer stay in one centred column on wide windows.
- When an AI engine fails, the chat says the real cause in plain words.
Fixed
- macOS dictation keeps what you said across pauses and stops when you send.
- The composer stays above a table's sticky header.
- When Claude Code is signed out, a turn moves to the backup engine.
- Codex's model list updates after the Codex CLI is updated.
- GitHub's MCP server works, and a remote MCP server's refusal names its error.
- An OpenRouter key works on OpenRouter's free tier.
- A passkey request in a bot's browser fails the way Chrome does, so a sign-in can pick another way.
- A group chat whose folder was deleted says so.
- Stripe secret keys are masked.
2.0.17 — October 17, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.17 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
New
- Rename a secret in Settings → Secrets: the saved value moves with it. Skills and bot instructions that use the old name must be changed to the new one, or they will stop working. A name that is already taken is refused.
- Edit a saved login's website and username in Settings → Logins. Changing only the username keeps the password and 2FA key. A new website needs the password again and clears the saved 2FA key.
- Brainwrite License page in Settings, after Brainwrite Cloud: who you are signed in as, your license type and plan, the date it is valid until, and whether Brainwrite has confirmed it, including when you are offline and an earlier answer is used. Check again asks once more.
2.0.16 — October 16, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.16 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
Important: bots now work at Full access by default
- New bots and new threads start at Full access, and so do existing bots and threads that never had an approval level saved (they used to be read as Ask). Levels you saved yourself are unchanged. A Chief at Full access applies new teammates, deletions and setups at once, without a card.
- At Full access, bots send emails, messages, posts, invites and payments through your connected apps without asking. To be asked first, choose Ask for approval for that bot or thread.
New
- Chat widgets: bots can show cards, pick-one lists, forms, tables, charts, and time and day pickers right in the chat; your choice becomes your next message.
- Delete many threads at once: choose Select threads under a bot's thread list, tick threads (with filters such as archived or older than a date) and delete them with one confirmation.
- Reply style: set a bot to Conversational in its Soul settings for short, plain replies.
- Chat width in Settings → Appearance: Standard, Wide or Full.
- Add to prompt: select text in a reply and press ⌘L to quote it in your next message.
- @you in group chats: a bot can mention you to get your attention, and you get a notification with the line.
- Notification feed (off by default, in Settings → Appearance): one panel with your bots' recent notifications and unread counts.
- Out of quota? When an engine runs out of quota or usage, a card offers other engines that can take over that conversation.
- Live call recap: open a finished Live call in the chat to see what you asked, the bot's answers and its steps.
- Record browser steps (in a bot's Access → Browser): numbered steps with screenshots, exportable from the conversation.
- Skills with reference files: a learned skill can carry reference notes, shown in full on its approval card.
- Command line for scripts:
brainwritebot run, wait, events, export, team apply, connectandengine set. - OpenRouter as a decision-model provider, with your own key.
- Always allow on My computer: on Brainwrite Cloud, when an engine such as Codex asks to use your lent computer, Always allow stops that bot asking in all your conversations with it, until you remove it in the bot's Access settings. Engines with their own session allowance, such as Claude, keep it for that session only.
Changed
- Live calls from the desktop app are free. Calling from your phone needs Brainwrite Cloud or an organization license. Calls still use your own OpenAI API key.
- Settings → AI accounts: one card per provider, one clear action per account; ChatGPT accounts can be renamed and removed, and Claude sign-in says when it worked.
- A simpler bot panel, with plain rows, Memory, Skills, Routines and Vault tabs, and three plain choices for where a bot works.
- Approvals take one line in the chat ("{bot} wants to …"), and the composer answers them.
- Plain words for tool steps in Simple mode: "Run a command", "Read a file", "Search the web".
- Archived threads stay archived when they get a reply, and a bot's unread dot ignores them.
- Pinned bots in the sidebar expand to list their threads.
- Groups show who is waiting: each queued member and whose turn it is.
- Connected apps: an account that was signed out shows Signed out with Reconnect.
- Team memory: notes survive a team rename, stale edits ask you to reload, and notes can be pinned and restored.
- Team Library: a team can bundle up to 60 skills, in files up to 2 MB.
- A bot's built-in browser closes after 10 minutes idle and keeps its saved sign-ins.
- A browser click or key that the page is slow to take now says so, instead of asking you to restart.
- The Jump to latest button is a small arrow and no longer covers the run card.
Fixed
- Answering several deletion or setup cards from one turn now applies each of them, and the Chief continues once with all your answers.
- Voice notes from Mac system voices and Chatterbox now appear in the chat.
- A bot whose team tools fail to start says so once and reconnects on the next message.
- Bots on Groq, Mistral, Cerebras and Meta no longer receive the conversation twice per turn.
- Changing a bot's default model from the signed-in web app works again.
- The View all buttons on the Apps page are named after their section.
2.0.15 — October 14, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.15 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
New
- Bots ask you to sign in where they work, never for a password in chat. A Sign in needed card names the site: Open takes you to the bot's browser or computer, already in your control, and Done hands it back so the bot continues.
- Saved logins. Save a login once, from the card's Save a login or Settings → Logins, and a bot signs in to that site by itself without ever seeing the password. A 2FA setup key can be saved too.
- Logins from 1Password: connect a vault and bots can sign in with its logins.
- See and sign out of signed-in sites for each bot's browser in Browser profiles, and use My Chrome for sites that refuse the bot's browser.
- Bots can attach files to web pages in the built-in browser, such as an image for a post, following the bot's approval level.
- Steer with pictures: a queued message with a picture can be steered into a running Claude reply.
- Learn from group chats (off by default, in a bot's Memory settings): bots also notice facts from the group chats they are in.
- Learn skills automatically (experimental, off by default): after enough tool steps, a bot reviews the conversation in the background and may create or improve its own skills.
- Meta Muse models, including Muse Wonder, as a new engine.
- Keep idle threads' prompt cache warm (off by default) for Claude bots signed in with a subscription.
- Always allow a read-only tool from your own MCP servers once, and it stays allowed in later tasks.
- Pause one bot in a group by writing stop @Bot, or with the Stop button, which names the bot, under the bot that is working.
Changed
- Copying part of a reply pastes as normal text in Mail and other apps, without the app's dark background or colors.
- In a group, each bot's notes while working fold into a Worked for… row above its reply.
- When control of the built-in browser returns to a bot, the panel says Control is back with the bot's name.
- Restarting a bot's browser keeps its saved sign-ins, and the bot is told so.
Fixed
- The Data tab works on Brainwrite Cloud. It no longer fails with "DuckDB did not load".
- Saved browser profiles keep their sign-ins even when Brainwrite quits unexpectedly a few seconds after you sign in.
- A click or key in the browser panel that never reached the page no longer asks you to restart the browser, and what you typed is kept when the bot's action never reached the page.
- Codex bots have their built-in browser again, and run memory upkeep and skill reviews.
- A queued message is never sent twice after a crash.
- An approval level set for a whole team reaches every thread, and a team model change keeps each thread's own model.
2.0.14 — October 13, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.14 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
New
- Color my messages. In a one-to-one chat, your messages can take a deeper shade of the bot's color, and each bot's name above its replies uses its color. Turn it on in Settings → Appearance.
- A Data tab in the Computer panel. A bot loads files, links or databases into tables, runs SQL, and builds tables and charts you can page through, filter, export and query yourself.
- Routines can also run when Brainwrite starts, for a computer that is often off when a routine is due. Turn on Also run when Brainwrite starts in a repeating routine's Advanced options; its runs show as On startup.
- New chat at the top of the + menu starts a chat with any bot.
- Run a bot's skills from the / menu, and write your own with Write a command in a bot's Skills settings.
- Choose your send key: Enter, Shift+Enter or Ctrl+Enter, in Settings → Appearance.
- Links that open a chat. A chat's Copy link now opens that exact chat from a browser or another app.
- A link for each thread. The newest GitHub pull request or issue in a reply shows on the thread's row; right-click any link in a reply to assign it yourself.
- GitHub links show as compact pills, and every web link in a reply shows a preview when you hover over it.
- A "new" divider marks where unread messages start, and Mark all conversations as read is in a bot's menu.
- Brainwrite reopens the conversation you had open last time.
- Environments on this computer: separate setups, each with its own bots, conversations and data folder, in Settings → Computers → Servers.
- New thread in a working folder… (Advanced mode) starts a conversation in a folder you choose.
- My Cloud starts by asking what it should do while you're away, then sets itself up from your answer. You can skip it.
- Add a Cloud… in the server menu shows the Brainwrite Cloud plan. If you already have My Cloud, you can ask for an email when you can add another.
- Live calls leave a record: one row in the chat per call, with its length, the steps the bot took and the permission requests it raised. The voice's own words are not saved.
- More engines and models: Cline, Groq (Settings → API keys) and Claude Haiku 5.5.
- The phone web app can be added to your home screen.
- Japanese is complete, and typing with an input method, as in Japanese, no longer sends a half-written message.
- Bots know the current time on every message.
- A bot can ask a question with several answers to tick, and can deliver a file it saved outside the chat's folders.
- Your chief of staff can suggest adding a missing specialist, through the team setup card.
Changed
- Live calls need an active Brainwrite Cloud plan. Without one, the Live button explains this instead of starting a call.
- Full access turns on at once, with no confirmation, and stays on when a bot changes engine. Custom still returns to Ask.
- One compact card for questions, key requests and sign-ins. A single choice sends with one tap, or press its letter.
- Quieter message actions: reply, copy and … appear when you point at a message; … holds read aloud, raw markdown, regenerate and pin.
- Work your bots hand to each other now survives a restart, a question waiting on you is shown once, and an approval nobody answered is reported as not done.
- A bot your chief of staff creates goes through the team setup card unless the chief has Full access.
- Files a reply delivers show as compact pills under its text.
- Compact bot rows with a plain-text preview, one account menu at every sidebar width, an update button beside your account while an update downloads, and a Tools header that folds Routines, Triggers and the team map.
- Apps open as a catalog you can browse by category.
- Scrolling up loads earlier messages by itself.
- The working label changes with what the bot is doing.
- Errors read as one plain line, with the details underneath, and a cancelled reply shows as a quiet stop with Retry.
- Files shows the conversation's own working folder, and files a reply shared can be saved from recent changes.
- Text renders like the rest of macOS, accent colors are richer on wide-color displays, every clickable control shows a pointer, and the window drags from every view's top bar.
- A bot's profile opens to the section you last viewed.
Fixed
- With threads hidden, every reply lands in your chat, and a side thread you open shows Back to your chat.
- A room can work in several threads at once.
- A Claude bot past its usage limit says which limit and when it resets, and recovers by itself when its session is lost. Update Claude for me now updates the copy Brainwrite installed.
- Screenshots a bot takes on its computer no longer pile up on its final reply.
- Bots using this computer, a local VM or a VPS no longer stop at random while waiting for the computer, and an unreachable VPS no longer fails a chat.
- The built-in browser no longer locks after a page that won't open or a slow action, closes when Brainwrite quits, and shows its preview faster.
- Codex bots no longer ask you to approve Brainwrite's own coordination tools.
- Signing in to an MCP server such as Google Sheets works, and signed-in servers refresh their access together before a reply.
- A missing working folder is named as missing, instead of the engine being called not installed.
- A provider's own error is shown, for example when Grok runs out of credits.
- A routine whose schedule can't be read, or a routines or webhooks file that can't be read, is never overwritten.
- Memory capture waits across a restart, and engines such as Cursor and Antigravity capture memory too.
- Your personal Claude instructions file (
~/.claude/CLAUDE.md) stays out of bots' context. - Cursor no longer opens repeated browser sign-ins when it has a key, and its effort models run as chosen.
- A connected app's missing-permission note appears only on calls that failed.
- Setting up a new bot picks a connected model by itself.
- A link outside the chat's working folder says why it can't be saved, and a picture a bot delivered shows in its reply.
- Long code blocks and messages with math load faster.
2.0.13 — October 10, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.13 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
New
- Your own computer takes over on Brainwrite Cloud. When a chat's cloud computer can't start because your plan's hours are used up or both cloud computers are in use, the bot carries on on your own computer, if you lend it to your Cloud with Apps and screen on, and tells you first. Rooms and routines still stop and say why.
Changed
- Copying this computer to your Cloud: a copy too large for your Cloud's disk now asks you to tell us so we can help, instead of pointing to a larger plan.
- When My Cloud can't be set up, it now says Brainwrite has been alerted and will try again.
2.0.12 — October 9, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.12 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
New
- More than one Google account for Antigravity. Add another account inside the Antigravity card; each has its own profile, bots choose it in the model picker, and the card shows the signed-in email.
- Add Claude and ChatGPT accounts inside their own cards in Settings → Engines.
- Mentions show who they reach: each bot shows its title, and @everyone shows how many bots it reaches.
Changed
- Faster start: after the first run, Brainwrite opens before the engines' model lists finish refreshing.
- The provider icon picker is removed.
Fixed
- Apps with strict servers work in chat (for example Voluum): with Codex and the other engines except Claude Code, tools that passed Test no longer answer "Tool not found".
- Errors in chats and rooms show in a banner you can dismiss.
- Room messages have the same actions as chat messages, and a message that fails to display no longer blanks the window.
- The message … button opens and closes with one click.
- Switching to another thread of the same bot follows the newest messages again.
- Right-to-left text, such as Arabic, reads correctly in edits, find, citations and pinned lines, and Arabic thread titles keep their beginning in the sidebar.
- A question you didn't answer no longer throws away the bot's finished reply.
- Deleting a bot also deletes its memory history and search index.
- Skills imported from GitHub download only over https from raw.githubusercontent.com.
- The command allowlist closes with Escape.
- The Traditional Chinese translation is complete.
- Security updates to bundled libraries.
2.0.11 — October 8, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.11 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
New
- Apps with very large tool lists connect, such as Whop with 425 tools, and bots on engines without tool search can search those tools.
- A link to a folder in chat lists the files in it (up to 200) instead of failing.
Changed
- Faster start: Brainwrite sets up all your engines at the same time.
- Signing out of ChatGPT in Codex also removes an API key Codex stored with that sign-in.
- Updated to Electron 43.5.
Fixed
- App sign-ins finish on My Cloud and hosted servers. Signing in to Whop, or any app that signs in through your browser, no longer ends on a page that can't load.
- Whop's card says why its tools didn't load, and shows "Loading Whop's tools…" while they load. Apps on the internet get 30 seconds to list their tools.
- An expired ChatGPT sign-in in Codex says so once and offers sign-in, instead of a loop of "Reconnecting… 1/5" errors.
- Codex 0.160: bots with a tool selection no longer refuse every message with "Codex could not confirm its shell environment exclusions".
2.0.10 — October 8, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.10 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
New
- Tables in chat. Tables in a reply show as rich tables, and CSV files open in a preview.
- "Remember the last run" in the routine editor gives each run of a repeating routine the previous run's report.
- Whop in Apps, with browser sign-in.
- MCP calls in Settings › General: choose how long a tool call may run (1 to 60 minutes, 10 by default).
- Continue threads. On OpenAI-compatible models, a reply that stops at the step limit carries on in a new "Continue:" thread on the same bot (at most 5 an hour for each bot). A provider's rate limit does not start one.
Changed
- A cloud computer starts only when a bot first uses it, and where a bot works reads as one line with one next step.
- Every turn runs on the bot's own engine. On My Cloud, a turn that can't use its cloud computer is no longer moved to My computer; choose My computer for the bot yourself.
- Simple mode hides Routines, Triggers and thread lists; Advanced mode shows them. Rename a bot from its settings.
- Threads follow their bot's model unless you pick another model in that thread.
- A bot's changes to itself (its routines, skills, profile and default model) apply directly at every approval level, with a one-line note and Undo, instead of an approval card.
- Faster start: screens load when you first open them.
Fixed
- An open Activity panel shows a turn's tools as soon as the turn ends.
- A connected account that expired can be connected again under the same name.
- A saved API key can be changed from Model providers.
- A key the provider rejects no longer shows Ready.
- Copy buttons work on My Cloud, and My Cloud keeps the microphone through a slow sign-in check.
2.0.9 — October 6, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.9 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
New
- Updates download by themselves. Brainwrite restarts only when you choose, so nothing restarts in the middle of a call or a task. On My Cloud you now see "Restart to update" too.
- Web search under Approve for me. Bots set to Approve for me can search the web without asking each time. Opening any other web address still asks.
- A key for any OpenCode provider, saved on your computer or on My Cloud.
Changed
- One name for each thing: My Cloud (your always-on Brainwrite in the cloud), Cloud computer, This computer, and Plan page (your plan and payments).
- Calls on My Cloud are Live calls, which use your OpenAI key. Calls where you take turns stay on This computer, and rooms offer no call button on My Cloud.
- Faster with long chats: chats and the sidebar redraw less, and long conversations stay smooth.
- OpenAI-compatible models stop after 64 steps in one reply and say what to do next.
Fixed
- A message sent right after Stop is no longer refused for Claude bots.
- A saved Brainwrite Cloud sign-in that can no longer be read clears itself and asks you to sign in again, instead of an error at every start.
- Choosing Default effort for a Codex bot takes effect in the current chat.
- The startup window stays until your workspace appears.
- When the microphone is blocked, Brainwrite says what blocked it and how to allow it.
2.0.8 — October 5, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.8 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
New
- Bots can upload files with a secret. When a skill uploads files the way
curl -Fdoes, such as a changelog entry with its cover image, the bot now sends them with your saved secret. It can upload any file your account can open, from Brainwrite's folders, your Desktop, Documents, Downloads or anywhere else, up to 10 MB per request. The token is still added by Brainwrite and sent only to that secret's site.
On a Mac, if Brainwrite hasn't been allowed to open a folder such as Desktop or Documents, the bot tells you, so you can allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Files and Folders.
2.0.7 — October 5, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.7 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
New
- Secrets: tokens your bots use without seeing them. When a skill needs a token of its own, such as a changelog hub's ingest token, the bot asks for it with a secure card in the chat. Check the site it will be sent to, paste the token and choose Save securely, and the bot carries on. Brainwrite keeps the token in your computer's secure store and adds it to the bot's request itself, only for that one site, so it never appears in the chat or reaches the bot.
- Settings → Secrets. See your saved secrets, where each is sent, which bots may use it and when it was last used. Add, edit or delete them; a saved value is never shown again.
Changed
- Bots no longer ask you to paste a token into the chat, or say it can't be requested. If you paste one anyway, they won't use it and will ask you to replace it.
Secrets work in the desktop app for now, not yet on Brainwrite Cloud or from the phone apps.
2.0.6 — October 4, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.6 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
New
- A heart body for your bots. It takes the capsule's place in the picker; a bot that wore the capsule now wears the heart.
- A livelier start. While Brainwrite opens, the Cloud mascot changes expression, blinks and bobs instead of showing a still icon. With Reduce Motion turned on, it stays still.
Changed
- The triangle and diamond bodies have softer, rounder corners.
2.0.5 — October 4, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.5 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
New
- Copy this computer here: copy this computer's bots and chats to any server you add, not only to Brainwrite Cloud. For a server other than your Cloud, you start the copy from this computer's Settings → Servers.
- Connect your phone: one entry in the profile menu, to this computer or to your Cloud.
Changed
- On Brainwrite Cloud, a bot set to work on the cloud computer keeps its own model. When a place cannot be used, the bot says why and which setting changes it.
- A follow-up to work a teammate is already doing continues the same thread instead of starting the work twice.
- A refreshed look for the top and bottom of the sidebar and for chat headers.
Fixed
- A group chat member whose turn fails now says what to do, as in a direct chat.
- Memory no longer loses a note when it reaches its size limit.
- Routine failures keep their detailed error.
- Settings → Built-in browser no longer says the browser is off by default.
2.0.4 — October 3, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.4 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
New
- Simple mode: new installs start with the everyday controls. Turn on Advanced mode in Settings → General to see every technical control, such as usage and tokens and the Inspector. An updated app keeps Advanced mode, so nothing you already use disappears. Nothing is deleted either way.
- Live calls: in a call, choose Live to talk naturally and interrupt any time while the bot still does the work. Live calls use OpenAI GPT-Live with your own OpenAI API key (OpenAI bills about $0.05 per minute).
- Pinned threads from every bot, together in one section of the sidebar.
- Refresh permissions on a thread applies the bot's current approval level and saved approvals to that thread.
- A new skin, Meadow.
- Routine runs show their date and time in the thread title.
Changed
- The built-in browser is on by default. Each bot keeps its own browser switch.
- In People, the Member role is now called User.
- The Brainwrite Cloud card notes that customers in India pay 18% GST on top of $99 a month.
Fixed
- On a Mac whose home folder has a long path, the built-in browser could not start and every bot's turn failed with "Could not safely prepare saved browser logins".
- The Browser panel's full-screen button now leads back out of full screen.
2.0.3 — October 2, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.3 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
New
- Triangle is a new bot body. It replaces Cursor; bots that used Cursor now show as Triangle.
- Export in the Inspector downloads one file with a conversation's chat, events and raw engine messages in time order, with secrets removed. Useful when reporting a problem.
- The chat header's actions are now in one menu.
Changed
- The chat and the message box stay usable when the window is narrow or a side panel is open. Bot settings float over the chat when there is no room for two panels, and the sidebar folds to icons.
- Every dropdown in the app has the same look.
- The Capsule body's face is centred.
Fixed
- The window could freeze for a moment on the Brainwrite Cloud settings page and when lending your computer.
- Phone pairing shows a clear message when no address is available, instead of a general error.
2.0.2 — October 1, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.2 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
New on Brainwrite Cloud
- My computer in the Computer panel. A bot on your Cloud can work on your own computer when you lend it: choose My computer, or ask the bot to use it.
- The panel shows whether your computer is lent, in use, asleep or not lent, with a button that opens the lending switch.
- If a bot set to Cloud can't use a cloud computer (for example, the included hours are used up) and your computer is lent, it continues on your computer and tells you first.
- Allow for this conversation: approve a bot's use of your computer once for the whole conversation, instead of every step.
- Calls and dictation now work on My Cloud. Your voice is recognised on your Mac; only the text goes to your bot.
Changed
- The lending switch names your computer, for example "Let my Cloud use Bhavik's MacBook Pro", and your Cloud calls it by that name.
Fixed
- A bot on your Cloud could read your lent computer's screen but was often refused when it tried to click or type, with "This computer is in use locally or held by a person".
2.0.1 — October 1, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0.1 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon.
Fixed
- The app now remembers your Brainwrite Cloud sign-in, and your organisation connection, after it restarts. In 2.0.0 both were lost on restart, which also hid Let my Cloud use this Mac.
- Scheduled and webhook runs wait when a workspace is busy instead of failing.
- A bot's browser recovers when it gets stuck, and a bot can restart its own browser.
- Fixes for connecting apps that sign in through the browser (MCP OAuth), for steered turns, and for skills missing from a bot's skill list.
New
- Cite part of a reply: select text in a chat and send it back with your comment.
- The sidebar can be resized by dragging its edge. Sidebar density is now in Settings → Appearance.
- A setting to show or hide the run card in chats.
- Webhook posts land in their own thread.
- Choose the Fish Audio speech model in voice settings.
- API keys save when you paste them, and pasted text that isn't a key is refused.
Changed
- Engines are now called "model providers" throughout the app.
2.0.0 — October 1, 2026
Brainwrite 2.0 for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Windows is coming soon, and so are the iPhone and Android companion apps.
Brainwrite Cloud
- Brainwrite Cloud ($99 a month) is your own always-on Cloud computer that keeps your bots running while your Mac is closed. Subscribe at cloud.brainwrite.in, then choose Open in the app, or sign in from Settings → Brainwrite Cloud.
- Included in every billing period: ElevenLabs voice (1,000,000 characters) and up to two Boat cloud computers, with 200 hours between them. Your own keys, when you add them, are used first.
- Move to Cloud moves your work from this computer to your Cloud in one step.
- Your Cloud can use a folder on this Mac that you choose to lend it. Only your own conversations can use it.
- Your Cloud is personal: only your own devices can connect to it.
Plans
- Two plans: Brainwrite Cloud ($99 a month) and Organisation ($750 a year), for teams that run Brainwrite on their own server.
- The app checks your plan when it opens and every 8 hours while it stays open. If it can't reach Brainwrite, it keeps working for up to 7 days.
- The team library is now at teams.brainwrite.in.
Chat and threads
- Snooze a thread until there is new activity or until a time you choose.
- Thread rows show how long ago they last changed.
- Routines can run inside a conversation.
- A bot's question shows in full.
- Voice notes play as audio in the chat.
- The message box is ready to type in when you open a thread or choose a reply.
Bots and teams
- Bots remember, organise and tidy their own memory notes.
- Choose a model when you create a specialist bot, and review a new bot's full settings before you create it.
- Rename or delete a team from the sidebar (its conversations are kept), manage its members, and let Chiefs appoint team leaders.
- An About me profile that all your bots can see.
- A default effort level for new bots.
- Zoom and reposition custom bot avatars.
Engines and models
- Claude Sonnet 5.5 in the Claude engine.
- Mistral API setup with live model discovery.
- A bundled model catalog with ready-made provider presets.
- OpenAI-compatible engines can use computer tools and see screenshots.
- An optional backup model when an ACP engine fails to start.
- Fixes for OpenCode and Antigravity.
Computers
- Up to 8 local VMs per bot, with a pool mode that keeps each conversation on its own VM.
- A bot can make a file in its VM and attach it to the chat.
- When a bot is waiting for a computer, it can use a cloud computer instead, with your consent, its cost shown, and an automatic stop when idle.
Usage
- Token accounting in group chats, spend grouped by routine, and clearer token totals.
Settings
- An interface font that you choose separately from the skin.
- Each device can use its own app language.
- A startup screen while the app opens.
- A webhook can limit how many unfinished tasks it holds.
- Per-service tool permissions for connected apps.
Security and reliability
- Tighter security for remote access, computer sharing and stored credentials, plus many reliability fixes.
Release notes for versions before 2.0 are on GitHub.
